The State of Utah announced a one-time $2,000 bonus for eligible child care workers on Tuesday, July 12, 2022.

In recognition of their efforts and hard work during the coronavirus pandemic, Utah child care workers will be awarded a one-time $2,000 bonus, the state announced Tuesday.

“We saw incredible dedication from those working in child care throughout the pandemic, often putting themselves and their families at risk of exposure to COVID-19,” Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson said in a news release. “I want to express my appreciation to child care workers in Utah. The work you do is critical to children, families and employers.”

The state estimates that over 12,000 child care workers, employees, staff, directors and owners will be eligible for the benefit, according to the release.

In order to receive the bonus, the state said, individuals must register for a Care About Child Care account. Beginning on July 19, applications will automatically be sent to account holders, and are due Aug. 31.

According to the release, the bonuses will be funded with $20 million that Utah has left in Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act funds — a federal allocation of $108 million in pandemic stimulus that is to be used for child care.

“Our dedicated child care workers are definitely unsung heroes,” Rebecca Banner, Office of Child Care director, said in the release. “This is a fantastic opportunity to be able to give them a tangible thank you and recognize and applaud their hard work.”
